February FO & WIPs

02:22

The month started with me attending my very first Baby & Knit event at Skabagtig yarn store in Aalborg. It was so nice to nerd about yarn and knitting again. I was surrounded by temptations, like these mini sock skeins from Hedgehog Fibers. It was so hard not to go crazy but I managed only to buy some merino/ cotton blend for a pair of baby pants.
February also brought a new baby into the world. My friend gave birth to daughter number 2 and I just had to pull out my pink yarn and knit something. I themed lambswool with a strand of hand-dyed yarn (party with glitter) for a perfect hooded hat (design by Pickles.no) that she'll wear when winter comes again.

It was also the month that winter truly arrived Denmark with below zero degrees and snow - and oh yeah amazing light too. I wore my favourite wool (including my topdown Riddari)

I finally finished my top down sweater knitted in lovely merino tweed and knitted Stay soft shawl (by Veera Välimäki  with  some lovely stash yarn - Shetland soft and merino tweed.

I also spend time yarn and knit nerding with yarn mags and my mum.

UFO/ frogged?
My Miss Rachel's yoke isn't quite right... I'm not sure if I have enough base colour (it was a kit) and the fit is a bit off. Strongly considering unravel and reknit- topdown for a better fit. Really like the colours and the yarn.

Plans for marts
  1. Finished the baby overalls I have on my needles
  2. Unravel Miss Rachel's yoke
  3. Plan next baby knitting project
  4. Decide which big project to start

UFOs

I'm organising my stash and discovered some UFOs. Some, like the pile above, are just missing to weave in some ends or sew on a small thing to be FOs.

A teddy bear that is missing an ear
A hat that need to weave in the ends
A bandana shawl that need to weave in the ends
Slippers that need to be stitched up
Baggy pants that in need of an elastic

While these are .... ufos... not sure if I'll finish them.

Baby cardigan in soft alpaca, but I don't have enough grey and I dislike the combo of needles and yarn.
Half of a baby one piece in need of a second half... seems way to big
Half a baby blanket that can easily be continued...maybe as a gift some time in the future.
Stash busting baby vest half done, this is I'll be done... some day...
Light flax sweater with other sleeves in a yarn I don't really like as it seems to attract cat hair. Will unravel it and double it up with a nicer yarn for something...

Baby knit

All you need is a pink hat with glitter

02:47

Last week one of my friends gave birth to a baby girl - so I had to knit something pink. I rolled out my big cone of thin lambs wool (bought at Fanø in 2014) and paired three strands with one strand of hand-dyed yarn (bought at the Copenhagen Knitting festival 2016) for a knitted gift.

I used two different hand dyed yarns - one with yellow and one with glitter to add some extra to the hat. The hat is a 'Cool kid hooded hat (design by pickles.no). A quick and easy knit on 5 mm needle - and one of my favourites for small kids. Hope she likes it.
The size if for a 6-12 month old.
Here is the result together with a mini version of the Westknit Mystery KAL '16 for her older sister (in the two handdyed yarns)

Yarn dyed with food colouring in mason jars
(english only)
I just can't wait to dive into the dying pot again.  I have a strong urge to transform un-dyed yarn into a skein of fab luscious colour. This time the plan is to hunt for the perfect colour, meaning the perfect shade of any colour. Starting with green and blue, as they are some of my most favourite and most used colours. But I also want to experiment a bit.

I've dug into my archive (from the old blog) and found some pictures from the last time I dyed yarn on a massive scale. It was for private use but ever since it's sparked an interest. Most of these are little experiments with food colouring, but they represent the colours I'm hoping to archive.

What do you think about kettle dyed BFL and perhaps some multi speckle merino sock yarn? Stay tuned.

Yarn love challenge

08:00

I'm joining in on an Instagram challenge this February, it's the Yarn love challenge.

Every day we share a image on Instagram with that days keyword and #yarnlovechallenge. So far I've shared picture of my current (main) project) and an introduction. But most of all it's just so much fun to follow the hashtag and see everyone else, from all over the world. Some of my favourite designers and indie dyers has joined in addition to many new people. Hop over to Instagram and check it out.

I love baby knits with bold colours. Colours that makes you happy, right? So I just had to knit something with many colours while I waited for the new addition to the family to be ready to join us. Actually I ended up knitting two cardigans with rainbow as the theme.

First up was a kimono-styled cardigan knitted in a combination of Istex Eínband and Shetland Soft, expecting that'll fit over the summer. The second one, and the one I'm most proud of, was a classic top down raglan cardigan, knitted in the round with a steek, in Kauni yarn.

Originally the colours changes in the yarn are far longer than you can see here, so the knitting process involved a lot of spit splice and winding yarn into tiny balls to get the colour change to fit the tiny cardigan. But it was so worth it!

It's so cute and luckily I have enough yarn to knit a sweater as well (in a larger size). Might have to knit myself a rainbow sweater too.

Ps will be joining in on the rainbow challenge by Norwegian designer and Webshop Malsen og Mor. Just waiting to get the kit I've ordered
